A Healthy Body, Mind And Soul

Life can be stressful in our everyday lives when we are tasked with so many responsibilities whether they be work, kids, school, chores or errands and balancing a social life with a healthy lifestyle. There is only so much we can do in so little time in the day and in most cases we have to make sacrifices and neglect some of the things that make us happy in order to achieve our goals. Sadly enough it is most often our obligations to better health that get cut out of our schedule when we are rushing to complete our daily tasks. What most people neglect to realise is that when we sacrifice our activities that are focused on better health and fitness, we also sacrifice the quality of other projects and our overall quality of life. I want to share with you a few tips to help you on your path to wellness that can be done in small increments of time in your day.

It is so important to balance activities that not only better our bodies, but also our minds and our souls. When I say soul I mean not in a spiritual sense but rather our overall sense of happiness, that feeling of satisfaction at the end of the day that gets us out of bed the next morning, ready to take on whatever comes our way. This can be achieved by setting aside a little bit of time each day for ourselves. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and reflect on how far you have come in your life. Write down three things you are grateful for in your life and three things you look forward to doing in the future. This mindfulness activity only takes 15-30 minutes of your day and can completely change your state of mind.

When it comes to better health in our bodies, and most often times our goals of weight loss, there are little things we can do to keep on track when we don’t have the time to go to the gym for an hour every day. Mixing up our physical activities makes a huge difference in seeing progress. Go for a run one day and the next do some strength training exercises. Switch up the areas of your body that you are focusing on to better your body as a whole. Make a list of meal ideas on Sunday night so you aren't stressed each day of the week trying to figure out what to do for dinner. When we are last minute meal strategizing, we often resort to something quick and unhealthy. When our bodies are receiving all of the nutrients they require to function optimally in healthy well balanced meals, we tend to have less cravings throughout the day.

Keeping the mind sharp is also very important and often neglected. You don't have to take any online courses or read old college textbooks to exercise your brain. Instead, make it fun by completing puzzles, playing board games with your family or friends or simply reading a good book for 30 minutes before bed. Exercising our minds makes them stronger and faster and when we are thinking faster throughout our days we become less mentally exhausted throughout the week. It is also important to eat foods that are good for the brain. Incorporate foods with antioxidants like blueberries and apples into your mornings along with foods that contain healthy fats like almonds, avocados or nut butters. These foods also aid in weight loss by giving our bodies a sense of satisfaction and helping them feel full for longer.

We owe it to ourselves to live our best lives. By setting aside just a little bit of time each day and incorporating these activities and habits into our schedules, we can improve our quality of life by thinking clearer, feeling healthy and being happy.
